Juan José, a mechanic, warns about the heat: "Check the system because it can even be dangerous."

The early arrival of hot weather can wreak havoc on cars . High temperatures not only affect driving in Spain, but also the condition of vehicles. The number of breakdowns and repair shop visits can increase during these days. And not only electric or hybrid vehicles, but also gasoline vehicles are no exception.

In this sense, the mechanic at Talleres Esbenezer in Seville, Juan José , wanted to share in a TikTok video some tips for gasoline cars that are starting to project some failures due to the accumulation of pressure in the tank due to the increase in temperatures.

Juan José's warning about the heat in the gas tanks

"We already have problems in cars due to high temperatures, to that excess heat we have in cars because, in the end , they're boxes that get incredibly hot, " the mechanic begins the video. According to the expert, this is especially common in gasoline vehicles because this fuel "builds up a lot of pressure because it evaporates very volatilely."

"When you remove the fuel cap, it sounds like it's pressurized, like air," says Juan José, adding that, in some cases, fuel can start to leak out as if it were trying to escape, "as if there was pressure inside the tank." This is mainly because as the temperature rises, gasoline tends to evaporate in the tank, generating gases that need to escape.

However, to prevent these polluting vapors from escaping, vehicles are equipped with a series of safety valves. In this case, the system responsible for this operation is the canister valve . It serves as an intermediate step because its function is to channel the gases from the tank to the engine's intake manifold.

This means, according to the mechanic, that when a driver accelerates, the valve opens, releasing these gases, mixing with the intake air and burning during combustion . For this reason, the expert warns that if you're refueling and notice any pressure when opening the cap or if gasoline is leaking out, there's a very likely problem with this valve. Juan José adds: "Check the system because it can even be dangerous."
